The Brotherhood Initiative Admission Essay Example

Throughout a significant portion of my academic career, I have been a highly self-motivated and independent student. For me, it wasn’t challenging to make friends who shared similar life goals and work ethics. However, ever since I moved up to Washington from southern California, it has been difficult to find people who shared similar aspirations and were of a similar racial/ethnic background as well. 

After attending a small conference held by some of those part of the program, I quickly became intrigued. I am interested in joining the UW Brotherhood Initiative as I believe it will help close the gap in finding like minded minorities I can get along with. The way that the initiative was advertised as a support group where all the members are constantly trying to improve themselves and each other really stood out to me. There was one member who said that the initiative had helped him with his undergraduate research application which he felt ultimately got him the acceptance. I too am interested in being part of the undergraduate research program at UW, and having extra support and helpful resources during my time at the university is always a plus. 

A different reason as to why I am interested in being part of the Brotherhood Initiative is the fact that it is backed by many different organizations within and outside of UW. It was discussed how the program had helped some of the members land internships in their respective fields of interest and how it also aided in scholarship applications. The final reason as to why I want to be part of the Brotherhood Initiative is the way how it also counts towards college credits. 

Being part of such a community would only help with my transition into college by making new friends and already entering with an established support group. The many benefits that come with being part of the Brotherhood Initiative are only additional selling points to me. I hope to be welcomed into such a program and aim to integrate myself into the inclusive and helpful community that is the Brotherhood Initiative.
