How My LSC Experience has Influenced My Life Essay Example

I started my Lonestar College experience in January of 2020 when I was invited into the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program. It was very important that I find an OTA program that was close to home and Lonestar College – Kingwood offered that opportunity to me. Since my parents have struggled financially to support my sister and I in our college career, I was grateful to have a college that cared about me and would help me financially. 

Since I plan to earn a bachelor’s degree, then master’s or doctorate degree, Lonestar College is a perfect start to my future. I would like to lift any financial burden I can off of my parents. Graduating from the OTA program will allow me to do so. I plan to work after graduating the OTA program, then continue to earn my degrees. I’m hoping to use the Lonestar College resources to help me in my transferring process. 

Lonestar College had great teachers who have made a difference in my life. The teachers have made me feel as if they genuinely care about my success. If I struggled to learn a subject, they were always there to explain it in a new way and make sure I understood it. I have felt more confident as a student with the teachers Lonestar College has. 

Since joining the program, I have become secretary of the Students of Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA). This has allowed me more of an opportunity to help our members as much as I can. Although I am the youngest person in our program, I was able to earn this honor. It has allowed me the opportunity to be a leader in our group. Before the pandemic, I was able to attend a healthcare day in an elementary school near the campus, where I led children through an “OT obstacle course” and taught them and their families what OT was. I also was able to participate in the spring and fall semester club rush where I explained what OT was to Lonestar College – Kingwood students. It has allowed me the opportunity to explain the definition of OT to many students who don’t know about it. 

I have recently joined the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Lonestar College. Since joining this club, it has offered me useful information about transferring, scholarships, and more. I am extremely thankful to have been invited in their chapter. 

Even after I graduate from the program, I plan to continue classes at Lonestar college to earn a bachelor’s degree. It offers me a low-cost tuition rather than an expensive tuition at a university. The college system has many classes available that will allow me to take as much for my pre-requisites as possible, before transferring. 

In conclusion, Lonestar College – Kingwood has offered me an endless amount of opportunities that will benefit my life. I am appreciative of the effort the college makes on ensuring I succeed. Without this college, I would not be where I am at today.
