Pasco's School Bus Problem (Essay Example)

Student Attendance has declined in Pasco County because of a lack of school buses. Pasco county has been around for an extremely long time and has over 600,000 residents. To keep up with people and they are livable, many stores and restaurants were built. However, student attendance is declining due to the fact that they cannot get to school. This is because there are fewer buses due to the recent lack of funding. 

Recent government studies indicate that students are not attending school as much as they once did, especially in high school. Lack of attendance can have long-term consequences for both the students and the school. A student who does not attend school will not learn as much as others and could be prevented from graduating. These negative behaviors can lead to future problems and after multiple absences stack up, the student can be punished. 

In Pasco County alone there are twenty-six high schools, and one is under construction. The majority of students can only get to their high school by riding the bus. Although through recent difficult events, Pasco has been short on bus drivers. Along with the recent defunding of buses. This is causing there to be people that must share buses with people from other home schools. Many bus drivers are quitting because of the students and low pay.  

Though identical events, kids that are within a two-mile radius of the school cannot ride the bus. Most parents must go to work before their child goes to school. This is causing students in high school and even elementary kids to walk to school. They are limiting the bus routes because the stops made by students within a two-mile radius are unpaid for stops. This is causing there to be less pay for bus drivers and there is a shortage of bus drivers due to this.  

Overall, the main point is that since the buses are defunding of buses not all students will be able to get to school. This causes bus rides to be longer due to buses merging, not everyone can get home on time and can get into trouble because of it. Although the idea of adding Digital Info classes to more schools is an innovative idea, people cannot even get to class if they do not have a bus and their parents must work. Unless the students walk, which could cause them to be late to class and get unmotivated. All due to the shortage of buses and the defunding causing bus drivers to quit too.
