My Writing Skills Essay Example
I can remember the day as if it was yesterday. Sitting around the learning table in my kindergarten class, writing my alphabet one letter at a time. I remember Ms. Martinez would always say "Startup to the sky and go down to the ground". I will never forget that saying as it helped me learn how to write in letter formation and that was the beginning of my journey.
As I continued my education, my writing skills strengthened as I learned proper grammar and punctuation consequently giving me the ability to complete a sentence. Shortly after I learned how to compose letters and write paragraphs. I remember getting caught passing along a love letter to my classmate and Oh boy, let me tell you that was an embarrassing moment I'll never forget. My success as a writer has been rewarding. I remember the day I was sitting in class when all of a sudden I hear my name called out over the classroom intercom announcing I was the winner of the school essay contest. I was so proud of myself, I can honestly say it was well-deserved for I had worked so hard on my essay. Surprisingly, I won the spelling bee that same year which was another great achievement I earned which is a great asset to my writing skills.
When it comes to my deficiency in writing I can recall having a difficult time pronouncing words. One day I was taken out of class and sent to a room where a lady would hold up a card and I would have to tell her what I saw. Let me just say it was so difficult for me to pronounce the words, I would get so frustrated. Over time my speech got better, but I still have difficulty with medical terms. Proofreading is one of my weaknesses simply because I would rather have someone else proofread my work. I remember asking my sister to help me, and she said, "Do it yourself" while shaking her head. I couldn't believe she wouldn't help me. Oh well, I guess I'll just do it myself.
Writing can be very difficult at times. My action plan is to take full advantage of the resources that are offered to me here at AIU online. The learning center, APA guide, and Smart thinking are just a click away and will help me strengthen my writing skills which are going to be very beneficial to me as a writer. I am so excited to be taking English composition 1 because I know there is always room for improvement when it comes to being a great writer. I am also going to take full advantage of all the feedback that is given to me by my professor and peers. Knowledge is power, and together we can discover things we didn't even know.
In conclusion, writing has allowed me to express my thoughts, feelings, opinion, and imagination. I must say my journey as a writer has not stopped and I will continue to gain more knowledge to become a better writer. With that being said I enjoyed reminiscing about my experience as a writer, I can honestly say my journey has been a great success and very rewarding. I am grateful to have started my adventure with Ms.Martinez. Learning letter formation improved my handwriting and as a result, I have become a great writer.
