On April 14 a tragedy struck Abraham Lincoln was shot and on the next day he died. They searched for the person that shot him and then found his name was John Wilkes Booth. Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln  for a few reasons he believed that god ascended him to kill Lincoln and another motive was Political points of views and how he didn't like that Lincoln was giving People of color a chance at life because. John Wilkes was a religious fanatic who believed that god ascended him to kill Lincoln. His diary entry reads how his god ascended him and “simply made me the instrument of his punishment”(14,1865)John is referring to how god made him kill Abraham Lincoln because of what he was doing to our nation Wilkes thought that he was doing a duty to god by killing Lincoln but it was just an excuse. John Wilkes motive was that he should kill Abraham Lincoln to save the union. In addition Booth also believed that he needed to kill Abraham Lincoln to save our country from dividing. John Wilkes thought that in all of his life he has “Seen less harsh treatment from master to man than I beheld in the North from father to son”(25, 1864). Politics could have been another motive to killing Lincoln. He believed that slaves in the south are treated better than father to son in the North. 

On the other hand he didn't like how Abraham Lincoln was allowing slaves to be free since John Wilkes booth had a different political stance. John believes that america was made for white people “not a black man…….and no one would be willing to do more for the n---- race than I”(25,1864)John Wilkes thinks that slaves are being treated well which is not true and that Abraham Lincoln is making a issue for no reason. He also explains in the letter how slaves and farmers helped our economy. In conclusion John Wilkes letter to his brother in law he tries to justify his actions by using religion and political points of view and that he had a different point of view on the situation.
