Essay Example: Should the United States Take Stronger Action Against North Korea?

The principal builder (United States) was walking along a newly-built embankment (Relations w/ North Korea). He admired the constitution of his craftsmanship of this embankment; from the laying of its stone bricks to the timing of its construction. The principal builder decided to sit along its walls to look upon the world in which he believed he was protecting, but a perilous thought arose in his mind. He grew arrogant, and decided to act upon his pride. He decided that his construction was indeed so perfect, that he believed that his embankment could hold one more drop of water than compared to the rest (Foreign Government’s Policies). He took his flask of water out from under his jacket, opened its lid, and observed the contents inside; one more drop (Stronger Actions). He turned over his flask, and watched as the final drop of water withdrew from his flask and into the calm waters being held by his embankment. The principal builder grinned in his moment of pride until he felt a sudden shift in his embankment. The stone bricks began to shift. The waters, which were once in its torpor state, became unmollified and the mortar that held it together began to crumble. He took his flask and scooped it into the agitated waters in attempts to take it back, but it was too late. The walls from under him caved in as the principal builder falling into the waters that were calm only moments ago. The walls that crumbled unleashed a torrent of water (Nuclear War) that disrupted the natures of the land it was once protecting. The once prominent trees were now derooted from the hillocks, the animals that once ruled and cared for its lands were now stolen as they were ripped from its grounds, and this even distrubed the sun and the moon (The World), for they witnessed the obliteration of nature form one single drop of water.

The reasons why the United States should not take stronger action against North Korea is because it holds the potential to constrict the economy of North Korea, which may potentially produce a relation of mass destruction from North Korea against the world. In these terms, stronger action, such as sanctions, against North Korea may be considerable to be interpreted as “poorly timed” and “underdeveloped”, which holds the potential to position foreigh bodies and governments at a “disadvantage” in terms of longevity, and stronger action against North Korea holds the potential to contribute to an exponential increase in domestic human rights violations.

The first reason why the United States should not take stronger action against North Korea is because stronger action holds the potential to constrict the economy of North Korea, which may bring forth calamitous retaliation from the North Koreans against “hostile” nations. The North Korean leadership and its government has conveyed its dependency on its nuclear energy in recent years, and without it the nation of North Korea and its economy would crumble. In an interview with CNN, former-acting North Korean ambassador to Kuwait told the press that: "North Korea's nuclear power is directly linked to the stability of the regime, and Kim likely believes nuclear weapons are key to his survival” (Ryu Hyeon-Woo). Kim Jong Un strongly believes that not only is the economy of not only Pyongyang (North Korea’s Capital City) dependent on nuclear energy/weaponry, but so is the entire economy of North Korea as a country. If the United States took stronger action against North Korea, then North Koreans and its leadership may interpret it as a direct assault against the very heart of North Korea, which may pose North Korea to relaitate in the interests of defense in the potential form of nuclear warfare against foreign nations.

In this thought, the North Korean government and its leadership are not ambivent when it comes to concerning threats against foreign nations; especially for a forein nation(s) interests in taking stronger action against North Korea. In recent times, North Korea has been manufacturing, evaluating, and launching nuclear weaponry for the reason of the United States’ threats of taking stronger actions against the North Korean government and economy. In a recent article, Siladitya Ray reported, “North Korea on Friday fired an ‘unidentified projectile’ in what is believed to be its third missile test this month, according to the South Korean military, just hours after Pyongyang threatened strong action against the Biden administration’s fresh sanctions” (Ray). In that same article, Siladitya Ray inclusively reported, “‘It shows that the present U.S. Administration is talking about diplomacy and dialogue, but actually resorts to the policy for isolating and suffocating the Democratic People's Republic of Korea...If the United States takes such attitude of confrontation by all means, we cannot but make a stronger and clearer response, the statement stressed’" a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement’" (Ray). The North Korean government and its officials display the consequences of even speaking of stronger sanctions, which led to the manufacturing, evaluation, and launching of nuclear weaponry. If the United States, hypothetically, took stronger action against North Korea, then it would be countered with actions that are stronger and clearer than the United States’s actions by tenfold.

The second reason why the United States should not take stronger action against North Korea is because the stronger action applied to the economy and government of North Korea could be potentially viewed as “poorly timed” and “underdeveloped”. In a United Nations (UN) summit, China's ambassador, Zhang Jun, said Friday that: "easing sanctions at an appropriate time is an important aspect of UN Security Council resolutions” He inclusively announced that North Korea has taken a "range of positive steps" that have not been reciprocated by the U.S." (Wainer). In this aspect, immediate and aggressive action toward North Korea could be too much for them to bear at a single moment, for diligent and progessive sanctions may be best recommended to take stronger action, but the North Koreans are so aware of their situations, that even if they notice the smallest ‘rock in the boat’ it may cause to incave and detonate in on itself.

The second reason why the United States should not take stronger actions against North Korea is because North Korea’s domestic abuse and violations would exponentially increase, endangering millions of potentially innocent lives. In terms of the average citizen, they are treated as second class citizens and are restricted from basics human rights such as freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, and even if one leading fragment of conern is found in terms of disloyalty to the current leader in the North Korean government, it could possibly result in the death penalty. “In 2014, a United Nations (UN) Commission of Inquiry (COI) found evidence that 'systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations have been, and are being committed by North Korea'' (Chubb/Yeo). North Korea’s strict and ruthless restrictions have harmed the very body of North Korea as a nation. It has starved its people of basic human freedoms and rights, and has demoralized and dehumanized its citizens, and if stronger actions were placed against its body, then North Korean leadership and its government would shift its blame upon its crippled majority.

In terms of this, the North Korean government would not stop at just its crippled majority. “The regime often punishes nuclear and extended families of defectors to deter people from leaving, especially diplomats'' (Ryu). The North Korean government is prominent in its travel restrictions for the typical North Korean citizen. It often enforces this restriction through severe punishments, and including, but not limited to, the death penalty. If stronger action against North Korea is imposed from foreigh nations, then North Korea could harm and implode in on itself from the poorest and lowly to its richest and its impressive.
