Essay Sample: College Should Be Free for Students

In the United States government officials have been discussing the possibility of making college free. The general population is extremely excited to have free college. Forcing people to pay for college results in fewer people having an opportunity. College should be free for students because it would enable people that may not be able to afford it to get a further education, free college would remove lifelong debt for many people, and free college would result in a better overall economy.

First, college should be free for students because it would enable people that may not be able to afford it to get a further education. When people get out of high school, a lot of them have immense potential but do not get to pursue their education purely because they cannot afford it. There are many examples of people that are very smart but do not get to go to college because of their financial situation. For example, when my grandparents got out of high school they could not go to college because they were extremely poor, even though they were at the top of their class. Because it would enable people that may not be able to afford it to get a further education, college should be free for students.

Second, college should be free for students because free college would remove lifelong debt for many people. When people finish college, most of them owe money to the college attended even if they drop out or do not get the job, they got the degree for. Ask anyone that has been to college, and I can almost guarantee you they will say they still have student debts. For example, my dad graduated from the University of Tennessee thirty-five years ago and just recently paid off all his student debt. He only attended for six years, and he had to pay about thirty thousand in student loans debts. Because free college would remove lifelong debt for many people, college should be free for students Third, college should be free for students because free college would result in a better overall economy. The economy would go up as soon as the government gets rid of the price of college due to all the debts going with it. If college were free and the debts were removed, the overall stability and financial situation of many people and families would become much better. For example, if college were free then my father would not have had to pay off thirty thousand dollars in student debts over thirty plus years. If my dad had had that thirty thousand instead of putting it towards a debt, he got for six years of school, he would have been more financially stable. Because free college would result in a better overall economy, college should be free for students.

In conclusion, if college were free, more people would go, a lot of debt would go away, and would create a better economy. More people that may not have been able to afford to go could get further education. Removing college debt would result in many people getting out of debt and being more financially stable. The economy would become even better than its current state. If the United States instated free college for all students, then it would increase the economy and the power of the United States on a global scale.
