Principles of Management Course Analysis Essay
Principles of Management taught by Professor J. F. is a very educational and fun course. Throughout the semester I have learned so much and will be taking the information gained from this course with me throughout my life. The course has taught me about management (of course), ethics, human resources, strategy, planning, decision making, leadership, motivation, communication, and so much more. I think all of these things will help me succeed in the future and I am so grateful for the knowledge.
In chapter one I learned about management, what management is and why we need managers. I found this information to be extremely helpful because I am looking to move up the ladder at my current job to become a manager. I found that being a manager is about managing people’s needs and abilities, not just making sure things get done. Managers are valued because of the multiplier effect, having their influence on others. I also noticed that managers follow a flow called the management process. This is where a manager plans things like goals, organizes people and tasks, leads and motivates their team, and controls performance to keep the flow going and create a smooth working environment. I learned about the different levels of management and what they are responsible for. This all opened my eyes to see the large ladder to climb ahead of me!
In chapter three we discussed ethics. Ethics is the standard of right and wrong that influences behavior. This is important because it is how people behave and how they will represent themselves in the world, especially the work world. In a management position you have legal compliance, ethical compliance, and ethical dilemma. Basically, one's ethics will help them be ethical to a company’s standards, this a huge deal because as a representative of a company your behavior reflects their beliefs. Personally, I feel that I have set good ethics for myself making it easier for me to align myself with a company’s ethical practices and guidelines.
