Cars have changed our lives forever the minute they were invented and now their popularity is growing faster that ever. It’s really no wonder as they are convenient, fast and these days – easily available. Unfortunately, with cars came traffic and the place for people in the city centres shrank. Govenments have options as to what they can do to fight that, let’s discuss some of them.

The first option which in my opinion would be effective is taxes. Let’s be realistic, no one likes paying them. Having to purchase a car, pay for fuel, insurance, maintenance and on top of that additional taxes would not only discourage people from using it but would make it impossible for some people to afford that. Nevertheless it’s not a perfect solution. To my knowledge most buildings in the city centre belong to massive companies and for them the tax would barely be an inconvenience.

The next option would be more troublesome for the government but as far as I am concerned more effective than taxes is investment in the public transport system. It would be a perfect solution in theory - if people won’t need cars they won’t use them. It would be a great opportunity for citizens to save more money as public transport is a lot cheaper compared to using a private car. Unfortunately, in reality the investment would most likely bring around more taxes.

In conclusion, the government has many options as how to minimize the use of private cars in the city centre. In my opinion investment is the superior one from the two I have presented. They have a lot to think about, but less cars would definitely improve our lives.
