Our Earth is constantly evolving and changing, and in recent years the change hasn’t necessarily been good. One of the problems with our world today is that humans are constantly making it hard on the world to stay alive. Our oceans are slowly acidifying and changing due to the impacts humans have caused. We have been caught up in technology and other things and we have lost the true meaning of life on earth. We need to realize how to change and what we can do to help our earth survive so that our children and the next generations to come can survive on our planet. I believe the first step to this is to save our oceans. In order to save our oceans, we need to make changes within ourselves.

The First steps to saving our oceans will be communication. We must have effective communication strategies in order to ensure the word gets out there. Many people don’t realize the impact of fossil fuels in our atmosphere and what it will do to the oceans if the temperatures keep rising. It is our job to ensure there is communication with the next generation and what we can do in order to help prevent these damages.

Global warming is a growing problem that will only get worse unless we do something about it. Most professionals and scientists know the consequences, but the general public don’t have all the information. An excerpt from the National Library of Medicine says “One of the most important climate action challenges is engaging in communication within our health professions communities and with our patients, families, communities, and populations. All the health professions—medicine, nursing, and others—are poised to serve as experts in addressing the intersection of climate and health. (Ann Glob Health. 2020) This shows how important communication can be with friends, family and coworkers. Just because there aren’t any drastic effects now doesn’t mean there won’t be in 10 years. We need to communicate effectively within our communities in order to save the oceans.

As a college student you have a lot on your plate, but there are things we can do in order to help this cause. First, stop using so much disposable plastic products, get reusable water bottles and straws so we aren't throwing more plastic into the oceans. Also, support a non-profit organization helping the cause of saving the oceans. It is very simple and easy to do, sign up and speak out so people know what is going on. Take time to reflect on how you do each day, you won’t always be perfect but if you self-assess yourself and you will find that you don’t really need to use disposable things.

In conclusion, to save our oceans, we need to make changes within ourselves. Whether that is to communicate more effectively or to self-assess and manage what is going on in your life. Either way we can help the ocean get back to the way it was when we weren't polluting it. It will not happen overnight, but we will eventually get to the point where we can take a deep breath. It is not a group effort as much as it is an individual one.
