The Smartest Dog Breeds Essay Example

Dogs are one of the smartest pets. Dogs are very loyal and kind. They can always be there to accompany you just like a friend whenever you are bored or sad. You could take them out on walks and the most fun part, play with them by teaching them awesome tricks. I believe that they will understand these tricks pretty quickly because they are very intelligent. The intelligence of a dog is based on how quickly and consistently it learns and obeys commands or how well it performs any task. This is the reason why I love dogs so much. Now in this essay, I want to share with you some of the smartest dog breeds I know.

One of the smartest dogs I know is the Airedale Terrier. Based on what I know about this dog, Airedale Terriers are highly intelligent and quick learners but this dog could also be stubborn and kind of unforgiving. The way to his heart is solid and regular training but cruelty or maltreatment will get you nowhere. This dog breed is truly resilient, they could learn lots of tricks and they can be trusted with certain tasks. For me, It’s a bit hard to rank the intelligence of this dog, but on a scale of 1-5 (five being the smartest), Airedales, to me, may be considered a four.

Another smart dog breed is the German Shepherd. There is a reason why these dogs are used by any police force. The reason is that these German Shepherds are extremely clever, they can do a variety of tasks right like tracking any criminal by their sense of smell. They learn to scent on the ground, for the scent trail that a criminal leaves, and in the air, for the scent that flows downwind from a criminal when he or she is nearby. German Shepherds have quick, retentive memory which helps them remember any tricks or tasks taught by their owner. They are protective, versatile and indeed a wonderful companion.  So overall, they’re the smartest dog breed for obedience and work intelligence and if I were to rank them on a scale of 5, I would say, maybe a 4.5.

Last but not least, another dog breed that I think is very intelligent is the Border Collie. They are capable of learning an extraordinary amount of commands and they’re some of the hardest-working dog breeds ever imagined. They are energetic, determined and they learn so quickly that it can be hard to keep up. If they are not doing something, they can become very bored and they will soon find their own things to do. These dogs possess high working intelligence as compared to other dogs. They quickly act on the commands because of their high iq. They make use of both their natural and adaptive intelligence to complete the task given to them. If I were to rank their intelligence on a scale of 5, it would obviously be a 5/5, rank #1. 

Ultimately, there are so many other dog breeds out there. Dogs are known for their loyalty and their intelligence. They stay on our side and provide us protection. Finding out the level of intelligence of a dog breed is important on how easily a dog can be trained and how obedient will they be based on their ability to understand a given task. Three dog breeds, listed in this essay, which I think are smart are Airedale Terrier, German Shepherd, and Border Collie. So, in conclusion, all dog breeds are funny and smart in their own way which makes them all uniquely special but don’t forget, the intelligence of a dog is based on how quickly and consistently it learns and obeys commands or how well it performs any given task.
