Recently there has been severe damage to the environment caused by genetically modified foods. The foods have caused an argument in society determining whether they are beneficial or not. However, studies have shown that genetically modified foods threaten crop growth and have thrown the ecosystem off balance. Genetically modified foods are not only life-threatening, but they also affect the way farmers grow crops and are causing severe damage to the environment.

Studies have shown that genetically modified foods have affected crop growth drastically. GMmutations have spread to crops causing superweeds, they are known to be “aggressive and resistant to the chemicals used to kill them” causing an effect on crop growth(Mcleod). This creates a chain effect and not only hurts farmers but affects the environment too. Genetically modified foods have affected the environment by throwing the ecosystem off balance. When the ecosystem is thrown off balance we will experience increased flooding due to erosion and lack of trees.

Do you know exactly what you are putting in your body when consuming genetically modified foods? The simple truth is that they are unhealthy and life-threatening. Nobody knows how it will affect anything in the future. So why risk it? Studies show that GM foods can cause toxic effects such as “hepatic, pancreatic, renal, or reproductive issues”(Dona). So the real question is, why risk our health and well-being on foods that we are unsure of?

If society continues to produce genetically modified foods, people and everything around us will be at risk. GM foods will continue to be life-threatening, affect crop growth, and throw the ecosystem off balance. Researchers will continue to find reasons why GM foods are dangerous and should not be consumed. Your life and this world are more important than a tasty meal containing GM foods.
