Personal Reflective Essay Example: Overcoming Obstacles

Some people say that not every obstacle can be turned into something good. Others, including the writer, says that obstacles can be turned into something good. The writer says “any situation in life that is negative, there is something positive you can do with it.” Although some may say that we are not able to turn every obstacle into something good, I believe we are able to turn every obstacle in to something good because we can benefit so much from our past experiences whether we fail or succeed.

It is true that sometimes obstacles may not seem to have a possible positive outcome. In life it is a guarantee that we will fail, and failing never feels good. It can be discouraging when we have obstacles such as getting into debt, struggling with a sickness, or even facing death. We may lose confidence in ourselves during these times, however, we might not realize how much we can benefit when battling trying times.

Although we may face some challenges that seem as though we can not change them for the better, I believe we can always benefit from obstacles whether or not we succeed from them. For example, we can learn from our experiences if we fail, such as failing a test and retaking it a second time. Then, we can get better with the knowledge we gained, to succeed the next time. Fighting something that goes against you will always build your endurance, and it will inspire a competitive spirit from inside you. You can see this happening in athletic competitions such as football or track. Obstacles throughout life will also challenge you and keep you determined. And most importantly of all, whether you won the State Championship, or you beat your friends in cards, it always feels good to win.

In conclusion, even though some obstacles may seem as though they are a road block that can not be passed and are only there to negatively impact you, I believe that all obstacles can result in something positive, through the experience you gain as well as the challenge that you will receive.
