Every human being thinks and lives differently, and each of us is governed by our own perspectives and morals. In this paper, I'd share my own experiences that relate to my understanding of morals and how they shape my being.

I firmly believe that morals are subjective and particular, contrary to how others perceive them as objective and universal. Yes, they are culturally accepted manners such as ways to behave and think that society keeps together, but something being moral most of the time still depends upon the person because morals are basically just the differentiation of right and wrong, or good and bad. They are ideals of correct behavior and proper attitude. They are neither precisely individual nor precisely social, and at the most subtle level, not even entirely about people, but are ideals of how we should exist within the context of the greater world.

I used to think that lying is bad because that's what I was taught. So, growing up, I always practiced telling the truth. But then, I came across the concept of white lies, and it made me wonder if lying is really bad. Since then, I've started questioning the idea of good and bad. Why is lying considered bad if there's this white lie that's made for a good purpose? Does that mean not all bad things are really bad? Being a lesbian or gay is denounced as bad because it opposes God's terms, so is it according to God that we base our concepts of good and bad? But others don't think it's bad or wrong, so it's not entirely right to think that way. Then, what really constitutes good and bad?

Morals are personal standards of behavior. A moral person’s decisions are guided by his own moral standards and not necessarily by those written down in a holy book, learned from a master or dictated by society. As long as we recognize that we, humans, suffer and can suffer, and do not do anything that causes such suffering, then we are living a moral life. That just means, to be moral is simply to be human.
