Hello and Goodbye! How did these words come about in the English language? The English language is known and loved by English speakers. But the English that we communicate with every day is not the same form of English that was used a few centuries ago. English over a period of time has had many changes since the beginning of the English language. With the help of new inventions, international trade, and the borrowing of words from foreign languages English has made a multitude of changes.

Firstly, one of the main contributions to the change of the English language is English borrowing words from other languages. Many of the English words that we use daily are words that are borrowed from a lot of other languages. Words such as kindergarten and coffee are words that are borrowed from German and Persian (Taylor). To elaborate, word common words that are common in English are borrowed from other languages. This can be a reason why English can have different rules with noun plurality and why different verbs have different tense forms.

Secondly, international trading with countries with foreign languages helped with the change of the English language. When English trading companies were trading with countries in Asia the were items on the cargo lists such as seersuckers(www.bl.uk). Adopting words from the languages of the counties that English trading companies we trading with made it easier to trade with them. All of theses adaptations to the English language made the English-speaking countries prosper.

Lastly, the invention of new things gave English a reason to make new words. When new things are invented so are new words are also created. When the car was invented in 1886 a new word was added to the English language(Cox & Gordon).  There has been a countless amount of new inventions that were created meaning there has been a countless amount of words that have been added to the English language. With the rate of how many new things are invented in a year there is no way of telling how, many words will be added to the English language.

In conclusion, English has changed a lot over time and it is way different than it was centuries ago. Many of these contributions is to the production of new inventions, trading internationally, and being influenced by other languages. These factors have changed and formed English into how it is now and how we use it in the present day. In only a matter of time, the English language, later on, can change to the point that modern-day English speakers are unable to understand was the then English speakers are saying.
