In October 13, 2016 Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature - “ for having created new poetic expressions within the great American tradition”. Presented by Professor Sara Danius, Secretary of the Swedish Academy.

The Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded "in the field of literature, produced the most outstanding work in an idealistic direction”.

Gaining the displease of many people, given that Mr. Dylan was only seen as a musician by many, they saw his achievement as disrespectful towards past title-holders, and authors.

“Bob Dylan winning a Nobel in Literature is like Mrs. Fields being awarded 3 Michelin stars”Nobelist, Rabih Alameddine wrote.

On the contrary, others saw it as a well earned award, considering literature is expression in writing, such as; poetry, Nobels, history, biography and essays, regardless the individuality of each writing, expression is exhibited.

Not to mention “He can be read and should be read” said Sara Danius, “ [He’s] a great poet in the English tradition”

While there has been many speculation about whether Bob Dylan was deserving of such award and honor, I recognize he is in fact a great writer, whose poetry just comes with a melody and the convenience of not just being read, but also listened, for instance “Blonde on Blonde” is ‘an extraordinary example of his brilliant way of writing, rhyming and his great thinking’.

Furthermore many great and brilliant works of literature have been adapted to performances and theater as well, shaping literature into remarkable recognition and more accessible among the younger generation; therefore I don’t comprehend what is so unpleasant about Bob Dylan’s work, while other are being adapted to be performed in similar manner to Bob Dylan’s work.
