Leon C. Meggison once said “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who best manage change.” Cast Away is a film released in 2000, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and starring Tom Hanks as the main character. The main character is named Chuck, he works at FedEx in Russia. After visiting his family in the United States he gets on a FedEx plane to go back to Russia. The plane got caught in a storm which made it crash in the ocean. Chuck faints and then wakes up alone on the shore of an island. Chuck lives on that Island for two years with some materials from that crash from the plane crash and things he found on the island. One day a door floated to the island’s shore which Chuck finds and then uses as a sail for a raft he makes in order to get out of the island. He gets stranded in the ocean but a container ship finds him and rescues him. Scenarios like this are very unlikely to occur in real life, but if you were to get stranded on an island what would you do in order to survive? In this essay I will be writing about what I would bring in a scenery like this in order to help me survive.

In order for a person to survive and be rescued when you are stranded she or he needs items to do things. The survival items that I would bring are a knife, water bottle, kitchen pot, a compass, and a magnifying glass. The reason I will bring a knife is because I can defend myself from animals and also hunt them. I can use the knife as a hatchet to help me cut small tree branches, and I can make use of it to peel tree bark. The water bottle can be used to make a simple water filter, the pot to boil water and cook food, the compass so I can keep track of directions, and the magnifying glass to help me start fires during the day. The rescue items I will bring with me are a flare gun, first aid kit, walkie-talkie, whistle, and rope. The flare gun and the whistle can be used to get the attention of rescuers that are near you. The first aid kit can help me treat my wounds, and I can use the walkie-talkie to tap into the radio signal of nearby rescuers and tell them my location.

If your average person got stranded on an island for multiple years they would probably lose their sanity, in order to prevent that, a person would need other people to help them get through that situation and items to keep them entertained during the time they were stranded. If I could bring some people with me to a stranded island they would be an optimistic doctor who specializes in general emergencies, a person with lots of camping experience who is very patient and understanding, and a person with botany knowledge and who's good at making jokes. Some entertainment items I would bring are magnets, a volleyball, cards, and marbles.

So in conclusion, to help me survive on a stranded island I would bring a knife to help gather things, a bottle and pot to make edible food and drinkable water, magnifying glass to help start a fire and a compass to know what directions I’m walking on. A flare gun, whistle, and walkie-talkie to help improve my chances of being rescued and a first aid kit to help me treat my wounds. A doctor, experienced camper, and a botanist who can make jokes to help me survive and keep my sanity, and items like magnets, a volleyball, cards, and marbles to keep me entertained.
