Diary of the Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw is the third book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The Last Straw is about a middle school student named Greg Heffley who writes his life in his journal he would like to call it , but his mom calls it a diary. Greg explains lots of his family problems and also personal problems as well.

This begins with a new year, a new beginning. Since its New Years, Greg wanted his family to set resolutions. He couldn’t find anything for him to do so he decided to help his family out. That didn’t word out as planned because a few minutes after that he saw his dad eating candy out the trash which was a disappointment to Greg. Soon that problem got worse for Greg because he didn’t have any snacks to eat at school for energy, so he felt sleepy during class. Which cost him to fall asleep in class and have a detention. When he complains to his mother, she tells him that he has to wait until they go to the store again.

Things just got even worse from then . One day Greg, Frank, and Rodrick went to the movies and met Lenwood whom Frank didn’t like because he was the neighbor wrecker. Frank and Lenwood had a nice long talk about how Lenwood went to military school and now he's a whole different person now. That gave Frank a good idea for the boys because they were “ out of shape”, and also he was jealous of his boss and how perfect his family was compared to Frank’s.

Greg found himself having a crush on Holly Hills that goes to his school which he tried to impress before he had to be sent to military camp. The family goes to church on Easter, and Greg sat on something which made his pants look like he pooped himself. Holly goes to his church so no way he was going to wear his pants , so he tied his mom’s jacket over himself.. Greg asks his mother for a dollar so he can show off in front of Holly by putting it in the collection plate, but he accidentally puts a $20 in instead of a $1. Manny calls Greg “ploopy” which he didn’t know what it meant at all, but although he wished he knew because when Greg called Manny “ploopy'' in church, Manny started crying and screaming and the whole family had to walk down the center aisle to leave. Embarrassment for Greg and his dad.

Frank thinks he can get Greg to toughen up, so his dad made him play sports in an effort to change him. When Greg got the news about his dad threatening to send him to military camp so he decided to shape up or get torture and bullied. As you know good old Greg still never changed his ways.
