One of the reasons why this novel is a classic because it enlightens readers about history without singling out anyone or any group. Atticus has successfully managed to make the judge and the jury to ponder for hours about the case of Tom Robinson who was accused of raping Mayella Ewell a white women. Reverend Sykes stated, “(he) has never seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man”(279), but Attius had managed to keep the jury long enough to make them think about the facts, the evidence and not just take the word of a white man and wrongfully punish the people of color.

This was a historical moment for America because the jury would never decide in favor of a “colored man over a white man”, but Atticus attempt to change the tarnished views of jury members. This could be seen as a spark for African American rights. Even though African Americans were “free” they were not treated equally the Americans couldn’t accept the fact that they were “equal” to the people of color. This novel is narrated by Scout an innocent child, since it was told through a child’s perspective it would not be discriminating anyone.Children just say the truth they do not know the difference between right and wrong. Atticus was looked down on for defending Tom Robinson, his family was therened but he still did what was right. He is has been an inspiration for countless amount of people, which is one of the major reason that To Kill a Mockingbird is so widespread thus it should be considered a classic.

One of the reasons why To Kill a Mockingbird is an endless classic comes from the engaging characters conveying through Jem and Scout asking question that no one knows the answer to. In the beginning, Jem and his sister Scout, go to the trial of Tom Robinson, an African American, who is wrongfully convicted of a crime. After watching the trial, Jem understands why Boo Radley, his neighbor does not come out of his house,"if there's just one kind of folks, why can't they get along with each other? If they're all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I'm beginning to understand something. I think I'm beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in the house all this time... it's because he wants to stay inside"(236). Jem could not understand why people would “want” to have hate and prejudice towards each other.

Both Jem and Scout are extremely relatable because everyone has gone through a phase where they were innocent, naive to hardship and struggle, and curious about the adult world. Jem and Scout wonder, “if there's just one kind of folks, why can't they get along with each other?”, everyone can relate to asking questions that no one knows the answer to. One of the most universal language is youth, which is something everyone has to go through. It is impossible to find a person who has not gone through confusing and/or complicating period in their life. Kids asking thoughtful question that later makes readers think about it is engaging and when readers can not find a answer to their questions they can relate to the characters and understand things from their perspective. To Kill a Mockingbird is an endless classic because of engaging characters making the book interesting.
