The Martian Chronicles Literary Analysis Essay Example

Representation via similarities is the very principle that was used when authoring "The Martian Chronicles". Concerned for the future planet, Rad Bradbury depicted the highly likely negative future in which Earth uses characters to express the narcissistic and egotistical nature of the human mind. Furthermore, by depicting the actions of colonization and the property lost in the process, Bradbury not only recreates history but also predicts the opposite using illustrations. From the tyranny of foreign nature, the conquest of one's land, and the hypocrisy of nations, it is apparent that Bradbury fears Earth’s perfection driven to destruction. 

Likewise, one can see the appalling nature of the Martians, ruthlessly eradicated by such beings. Conceiving municipalities, fallacious life forms through illusion, in addition to advancing at an exponential rate opposed to human life, illustrate reasons to support and adhere to such an organization. In contrast to the fact, the association between humans and Martians resembles that of neighboring countries. Foreshadowing such an abrupt assault between neighboring countries of Russia and Ukraine, Rad Bradbury portrays the mere life in which one may be residing, 72 years in advancement. Made apparent by the ominous vocabulary, and alarming description, the horror of future life on Earth is made apparent by Bradbury. 

An example using the very principles mentioned is found on page 30 when Mr. XXX proceeds to commit suicide purely based on the narcissistic nature of his brain. "Slowly, the little psychologist's face changed. His jaw sagged. The gun dropped from his fingers. His eyes were dull and vacant. He put his hands up and turned in a blind circle. He fumbled at the bodies, saliva filling his mouth... A shot rang out. Mr.XXX fell. " Refusing to accept the fact that he had been incorrect in wrongly accusing his patients of being insane, he had driven himself to the point of death, thinking that he was psychotic. Wrongly accusing and refusing to accept this fact perfectly encompasses the human nature found in modern-day politics, governments, and society alike. 

Furthermore, the demonstration between Sam Parkhill and his agony towards foreign life and culture represents the misinterpretation of the human race by many. "Listen to me," said the girl. "Two," said Sam firmly, cocking the gun trigger... "We only..." said the girl. The gun went off. What was left of her, ice, snowflakes, smoke, blew away in the wind? " (Pg.138) As displayed throughout the text, a careless man, a symbol of modern-day society, proceeds to extinguish a Martian girl with good intentions. Furthermore, the symbolization of such a text shows the need for instant demand, as opposed to gradual interpretation. 

An additional example of modern-day society in "The Martian Chronicles" can be found on page 117, where Stendahl, a cruel man, proceeds to kill the people with whom he had tricked into being friends, all to achieve revenge. "Ah," said Stendahl, eyes closed. He shoved the last brick into place and mortared it tightly. "Requiescat in peace, dear friend." He hastened from the catacomb. In hopes of encompassing the very goal that is revenge, Stendhal perfectly represents the selfish nature of human greed. To kill many people in the hope of achieving one's own goal is to murder.

Rad Bradbury, Illustrating the selfish greed of many further shows interest in the topic. By foreshadowing circumstances concerning modern-day society, foreign affairs, and the economy alike, one is capable to visualize the declining welfare that is our economy.
