Think about the millions of people in the world that don’t know how much binge watching is damaging to the human body. They are sitting there picking a new show to watch instead of getting their steps in, or hanging out with family and friends. BInge watching started in 2013 and it is when you sit there and just continue watching a tv show and many multiple movies all day.  Binge watch is bad for people, it can lead to serious mental help problems like depression, loneliness, and less self control, it also causes serious physical health problems. 

The first reason that binge watching is bad for people is that it causes very strong feelings that many people who don’t binge watch normally have to deal with. “A University of Texas study found that bigner-watchers were more likely to be depressed , lonely, and have less self control than those who do not binge watch.” This piece of evidence is from the article “ Is Binge Watching a Harmless Hobby or Dangerous Vice?”. Binge watching is dangerous because these feelings that could come with it can affect a person's life very badly. Depression can cause a lot of other feelings to come around, along with physical health problems. Binge watching seems like an innocent thing to do just for fun when you are bored but they can cause serious feelings which could ruin someone's life because they are not easy things to overcome. The next piece of evidence will explain the other feelings that can be caused by binge watching from “Is Binge Watching a Harmless Hobby or Dangerous Vice?”. “ When a binge watching session finally reaches an end, the viewer may feel depressed or even anxious because their favorite show is over.” When you binge watch and your show ends there is nothing you can really do besides feel upset because you can’t make the show keep going and binge watchers don’t normally like to re watch the same shows over again because it takes away the element of surprise and they may not feel the original feelings they felt when first watching the show.

The next reason that binge watching is not good for a person to do is because it can take a serious toll on someone's health. In the article, “Is Binge Watching a Harmless or Dangerous Vice?” It says “ Binge watching requires sitting for hours and hours. This behavior has been linked to serious medical issues such as heart disease, cancer, and blood clots.” Although it seems like such a harmless thing to do, it is a very serious thing that could lead to death if done for too long. Binge watching is seriously dangerous with very dangerous medical conditions, and people who do it may not even know it is happening because they are so invested in their tv show. Even if they did know some binge watchers just can’t stop watching. The final piece of evidence states “ The frequent snacking that can accompany a binge watching session can also be linked to weight gain and damaged arteries. One study found that binge watching is related to poor sleep quality, fatigue, and insomma.” This piece of evidence is also from the article “Is Binge Watching a Harmless or Dangerous Vice?”.  Although having poor sleep. Fatigue, and insomma seem like something that isn't very important. When you can’t sleep or you don’t sleep well, that can lead to other serious problems such as high blood pressure, heart attack or stroke, heart failure, and diabetes. All of those things are very serious problems that connect to binge watching. Weight gain may sound like something that no one should care about except the person who is binge watching but everyone is wrong. Weight gain can be something that is seriously unhealthy and can lead you to a whole life of being unhealthy all because of  a couple of binge watching sessions that turned into a couple every week to a couple everyday. The last thing that could happen from binge watching is damaged arteries. Which could lead to a very serious heart problem and a very big medical emergency.

Some may argue that binge watching is good for relieving stress.  For example, “ According to psychiatrists, binge watching releases a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine creates feelings of pleasure. It can help relax and relieve stress.” Although watching tv shows and movies may release dopamine that doesn’t mean that binge watching itself is relieving stress and relaxing to do. The reason for that is because there is so much stress during the binge watching session because people are thinking about what they should be doing and what would happen if the show ends. One study has shown that binge watching is bad for stress levels and stressful feelings.  “Another study found that, rather than relieving stress, binge watching actually worsened stressful feelings like regret, guilt, amnd personal failure. These feelings were tied to a sense of wasted time and inactivity.”( Is Binge Watching a Harmless or Dangerous Vice?). This study is showing that no matter how much dopamine is released into the brain, the stressful feelings will not go away because of never doing anything while binge watching. 

In conclusion, binge watching is bad for people because it can take a huge toll on your mental health by causing depression, loneliness, and having less self control. It also can cause heart disease, along with blood clots, cancer, damaged arteries, loss of sleep, insomma, and weight gain. Therefore, there are people out in the world who don’t understand how terrible binge watching is for them, not understanding that mental health and physical health is important.
