Have your parents ever made a decision that you did not agree with and there is nothing you can do about it? Romeo and Juliet are two star-crossed lovers who throughout the novel have their love tested by family members and other people testing their love for one another. The effects of the two families hating each other lead to the kids Romeo, Juliet, and Tybalt suffering. In Shakespeare’s  Romeo and Juliet, the theme of Do Romeo and Juliet and the other young characters in the play, suffering from their parents’ or adult mistakes is shown through the characters Romeo, Juliet, and Tybalt.

One way the youth suffer is through Juliet's. Juliet is talking to Romeo on her balcony after the party about how much they love each other but because of his last name, they can not be together “Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.”(78)The quote shows the theme that Romeo and Juliet are suffering because they can not be together because of their family past which they had nothing to do with and when she tells Romeo to “ deny thy father and refuse thy name” she is saying to ignore her last name because it is the name of their enemy and if he does she will no longer be a Capulet, moving on to the next piece of evidence. Juliet is talking to friar Lawrence about how her father is forcing her to marry Paris and how she would rather die than be married to Paris and how she would much rather be married to Romeo “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, from the battlements of yonder tower. Or walk in thievish ways or bid me lurk.[...] And I would do it without fear or doubt to live an unstaint wife to my sweet love.``(214)This relates to them because when Juliet lists all the things she would rather do than marry Paris but how she would do it all for Romeo it shows how Juliet would suffer from her father forcing her to marry Paris. The theme of the youth suffering is shown clearly by Juliet not being able to marry Romeo who is who she really wants to be with, and who she feels she will be the happiest with but because their parents hate each other they are left to suffer

Another way the theme is shown is how  Juliet suffers from their parent's decisions, Juliet is talking to her nurse about Romeo and how she likes him but how she can not marry him because he is a Montague. “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me That I must love a loathèd enemy.”(70) When she uses the word loathed enemy we know that the families see each other as enemies and how” love sprung from my only hate” she means out everyone she loves someone she is supposed to hate which leads her to suffer because she can not marry her true love and someone she likes. The next piece of evidence is when the Nurse is talking to Juliet after they found out that Romeo killed Tybalt and Romeo got banished. “Tybalt is gone and Romeo banished. Romeo that killed him—he is banished.``(158) When Romeo kills Tybalt, it is because of the feud the families have. Tybalt hates Montagues and because Romeo is a Montague, that leads to a fight in which Romeo ends up killing Tybalt which gets him banished. Being able to see Juliet makes them both suffer. Romeo and Juliet's relationship suffers because of the feud the two families have. The last way is the effects of the family feud on their kids and how that leads them to suffer is when Mercutio is talking to Romeo after he was stabbed by Tybalt. “Why the devil came you between us? I was hurt under your arm.”(144) Tybalt stabs Mercutio because Mercutio belongs to the Montague family, and this leads to Romeo deciding to find Tybalt and fight him over the death of Mercutio. He does this because Mercutio was a good friend to Romeo and the death of his friend led to him suffering. The last piece of evidence is when Juliet is talking to Friar Lawrence about how much she loves Romeo and how she can’t wait to be with him for the rest of her life. “Give me my Romeo, and when I shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun.”(231) When Juliet tells Friar Lawrence that they would pay no worship and garish that means that it would not matter what anyone says after they are married because they are finally together and happy and she does not have to suffer and be unhappy.

Many of the characters are affected by adult mistakes that  are shown through Romeo and Juliet's love and the feud between the two families with Tybalt you are taught to hate the capulets and. These actions lead to young ones suffering. Romeo and Juliet fall in love but are forced to keep their love a secret because their families hate each other shown through Tybalt killing Mercutio which leads to death in both families and these effects lead to damaging effects on their love. The decisions that adults make can have an impact on their kids and those impacts could lead to serious effects like the effects it had on Romeo and Juliet.
