I’m doing my allegorical analysis on George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.” George Orwell uses animals on a typical farm to represent Russia’s regime in the 1920’s- 1950’s. Orwell uses events from the regime in Russia and portrays them in the story through animals on a farm. The main point of the story is communism, which Karl Marx started with an idea that everyone is equal, no individual is better then another. Vladimir Lenin then took Marx’s idea and turned it into the idea that one man should hold power to make everyone equal. Later Joseph Stalin killed them off and took over as head power and controlled all below him. There for communism turned into the idea that one person controls everything. Animalism, which is the same as communism but in reference to the animals on the farm which was introduced to the animals in the story by Old Major, an old pig who represents Stalin. Since there were such a strong support behind the communism idea people of Russia literally worked there lives away for Stalin, who represented tyranny, power and control. It started with the fall of mister jones, which represents the overthrow of Russia’s Tsar Nicholas the second. The events that unfolded after didn’t get any better. The Windmill in the story represents the decision to whether or not to expand the idea of communism and the forthcoming of the plan to do this. Napoleons initiative represents Stalins five-year plan to inact communism on the people of Russia. Just like what Stalin did to his people in Russia when they became useless to him, the pigs killed of the horse. For example the horse, Boxer, was a hard worker and believed in animalism like the pigs had bestowed upon the farm, broke his leg and could not pull the plow anymore so the pigs had him sent to be killed and his hoofs turned into glue. Stalin had no need for injured or mentally ill people so when boxers only option was to go to the hospital the pigs had the slaughter house pick him up but just how Stalin would lie to cover up the ugly truth, the pigs convinced the rest of the farm animals that it wasn’t the slaughter house people it was just an old truck they used to use for slaughtering. It was a ridiculous and non-believable lie but because the animals on the farm firmly stood behind the idea of animalism they believed the pigs and moved on with their lives like nothing happened.

But just like in Stalin’s time, on the farm, there were those who were skeptical of communism and the principle behind it. Benjamin in animal farm represented those who were skeptical of communism. They went along with the idea but had doubts and saw flaws in its principles. One of the biggest events in my opinion were the hen rebellion. It represents Stalin’s great purge of those who rose up and stood up to the belief of communism, the hens in the story refused to give up their eggs to the pigs so the pigs made them pay just like Stalin did to those who opposed him. Fredrick’s scheming represents Hitler breaking the treaty with Stalin. The treaty was that neither side would take military action against one another for the next ten years. Hitler was using this treaty so that he could invade Poland unopposed while Stalin (old major the pig) used it to stay at peace with Germany as well as using it as time to grow its military.  The battle of the windmill represents world war two. This portrays Stalin taking action against Hitler in the fact that Hitler couldn’t be trusted to honor his words since he broke the treaty The final feast of the animals and the humans represents the end of the Tehran conference and the beginning of the cold war.
