I remember you voicing your concerns over the fact that the vaccine is not safe since it was developed so quickly. But this is not true at all. The authorized vaccines are proven safe and are effective in combating the Coronavirus. Yes, I agree that they were developed in record time, but they still have gone through the same rigorous Food and Drug Administration process as other vaccines, meeting all safety standards. No steps were skipped. Rather, we should be grateful for the unprecedented worldwide collaboration which helped in the development of vaccines that too in a short period of time. It is also a fact that you would not get the coronavirus from the vaccine itself since it does not contain a live virus. I know you are worried about the side effects of the vaccine. But the side effects are completely normal and safe. It includes muscle pain, slight fever and chills, and fatigue. This is just the body’s reaction to the vaccine, preparing it to fight the actual coronavirus. The side effects are known to last only a few days and hence it is not a thing to be scared of. I remember reading an article where people are claiming to become “magnetic” after taking the vaccine. This is a complete hoax since COVID-19 vaccines do not contain any substance that can produce an electromagnetic field at the site of your injection. In addition, the typical dose for a COVID-19 vaccine is less than a milliliter, which is not enough to allow magnets to be attracted to your vaccination site even if the vaccine was filled with a magnetic metal. Another rumor is that the vaccine can enter into a person’s body and affect their DNA. The truth is that the vaccine is designed to help your body’s immune system fight the coronavirus. The messenger RNA from two of the first types of COVID-19 vaccines does enter cells, but not the nucleus of the cells where the DNA resides. The mRNA does its job to cause the cell to make protein to stimulate the immune system, and then it quickly breaks down — without affecting your DNA.

I have also seen many people arguing and fighting over the choice of getting Covaxin or Covishield. Both the vaccine work equally and people should not be fighting whether they want a particular vaccine. Rather you should get the vaccine whichever is available. A word of caution to remember the name of the vaccine that you have received in the first dose since the same vaccine has to be given in the next dose.

I assure you again that the vaccine is completely safe. Safety is always a top priority as federal agencies work with vaccine manufacturers to develop and authorize new vaccines. All vaccines go through clinical trials to test safety and effectiveness. For the COVID-19 vaccine, the FDA set high safety standards for vaccine developers to meet. The authorities continue to monitor people who got vaccinated to record any kind of irregularity in the person’s health. Fortunately, there are as been no news of any major effect on one’s health. Getting vaccinated also does not mean that one can stop wearing masks or discontinue the protocol of social distancing. Masking, handwashing, and physical distancing remain necessary in public until a sufficient number of people are immune.

I hope that you now understand the importance of getting vaccinated and are free of any fear or misconception about it. In these strenuous times, it is very important that you and grandfather both get the vaccines soon since prevention is always better than cure.
