An accidental explosion, or attack against the Americans? The USS Maine exploded on February 15, 1898. Over 250 men were on the boat during this time, but this boat could have fit much more. This event ultimately caused another war to happen called the Spanish American War in 1898. This was the same year the USS Maine exploded. Many reports came in after this explosion inferring that this explosion was an accident by have some kind of misconception or fire in the coal bunkers leading to the magazine, causing the ship to explode. Another reports say that the Spanish wanted to kill al the Americans by planting a mine causing the ship to explore. The USS Maine explosion was an accident because spontaneous combustions are common, Spanish aren’t capable of blowing up the ship, most experts believe that this explosion was an accident. 

The USS Maine explosion was an accident because the Spanish weren’t capable of blowing up the ship. Some reports have told the Americans that the Spanish could have exploded the ship. According to the buyer of the New York Journal that gives information about this named, William Randolph Hearst, the source states, “Spanish official are protesting…”. This quote means that the Spanish want to prove her innocence by going against what the Americans are saying. Many people would protest for something that they believe is wrong or that should be changed. This is what the Spanish are doing, they are rejecting at all costs for being guilty for exploding the USS Maine. In another document called the New York Times stated, “He did not believe that the Spanish or Cubans in Hava had either the information or the equipment necessary to blow up the magainge, while the Maine was under guard.” This quote means that Captain Schuley believes that the Spanish are nowhere near capable to commit this crime towards the Americans. This means that the Spanish are innocent and that they are being accused of something they didn’t do. Overall, the USS Maine explosion was an accident because the Spanish were not capable of doing this explosion, therefore this explosion was an accident. 

 However, some argue that the USS Maine explosion was not an accident. They argue that the Spanish have arranged to do this explosion, and that they have always been violent and dangerous. According to the New York Journal it states, “secret opinio of many people in Havana That the warship Maine was destroyed by a mine.” They claim that other Americans think that the warship was destroyed and had exploded because of a planted mine. In fact, other stronger witnesses state that they thought it was an accident, it was caused because of some kind of problem happening in the coal bunker and magazines. Overall, the USS Maine exploded because of a main function or problem that happened somewhere in the interior of the ship. 

The USS Maine explosion was an accident because explosions like these are common, Spanish aren’t capable of blowing up the ship, most experts believe that this explosion was an accident. Many experts have claimed that explosions and fires are common on ships. This gives more chances for the other ships to explode or other main functions to happen. According to other experts, the Spanish were not able to blow up the USS Maine. They didn’t have the proper tools or anything else to explode the ship. Overall, the USS Maine exploding was an accident.
