The Most Important Tool In Maximizing Productivity
When trying to be productive, there are a thousand techniques that can boost your production by 5%. But there is one thing people will forget about when they start to talk about being productive. This thing slips most people's minds because of the mindset they are in. The "GRIND UNTIL YOU DIE TO BE RICH" mindset is actually seen a lot online said by these "millionaires". The one thing everyone seems to not care about is sleep.
Sleep is the 4th most important thing to the human body. (Food, oxygen, and water beat it out) and a lot of people take getting a full 8 hours of sleep for granted. There are a lot of things that are beneficial about getting a full 8 hours of sleep that are overlooked by normally stupid things. Things like work, hobbies, tv, TikTok, and much more lead people to stay up and only get 5 hours of sleep. In this article, I will explain proven facts about sleep as well as my experience with the effects of sleep.
Sleep Makes You Happier
Getting 8 hours of sleep is so overlooked that we don't even realize that the reason our day may be going terribly is because of our lack of sleep. sclhealth.org states that "Being rested helps your energy levels soar. When your energy is up, life's little challenges won't annoy you as much. When you're not annoyed, you're not as angry. If you're not angry, you're happy. So, go to bed early and everyone around you will thank you for it." being rested can boost your mood due to how you feel. We normally know this as being grouchy or grumpy and it has an effect on our daily lives. If you aren't angry you will start to see things as they are. Such as if someone took that last donut at work. Maybe that isn't a bad thing, those have too many calories anyway.
Now, what does being awake and happier have to do with production? Well, when happier studies show that you are 12% more productive. Being happier also leads to more engagement which can help you to concentrate and work faster than you ever have. This is one of the small effects of getting a full 8 hours of sleep
Sleep Leads To Lower Stress Levels
Stress is such a big part of our daily lives. In my opinion, stress is one of the worst things for your body. Being stressed can make you angry and sad. It also affects the skin and the body overall and too much of it can really destroy your body (A new article about stress coming tomorrow). Sleep is one of the best ways to relieve stress. Sleepscore.com says "Sleep is a powerful stress reducer. Following a regular sleep routine calms and restores the body, improves concentration, regulates mood, and sharpens judgment and decision-making. You are a better problem solver and are better able to cope with stress when you're well-rested." Although being stressed can kill your productivity and happiness, a good rest can take so much stress away.
Reducing stress is a huge part of business, school, work, and so much more of our everyday lives. reducing it would change your day, your week, your month, or even your year! This affects productivity because with stress your life and work become 10x harder and 10x worse. Sleep eliminates stress, therefore, making life as well as work easier.
My Experience With and Without 8 Hours Of Sleep
I used to think that sleep was just a scam and that you only needed 6 just to keep you going. I mean we have caffeine and I am already normally hyper. This showed a lot during quarantine as I was staying up all night on my phone and waking up to do the same exact thing. I was getting around 5–6 hours of sleep and it didn't show until I got more sleep. You see, when I was getting 5–6 hours of sleep I didn't have my normal energy. I wasn't Sean Simmons I was a crappy version of him.
I didn't the energy to make food. If it wasn't a sandwich or chips then I didn't have the energy to make it. My reaction time was slower and I couldn't focus on things very well. I wasn't happy overall and things seemed boring. That all changed the day I got more sleep.
I had taken a break from social media and that left me with more time on my hands. I ended up going to bed at 11 PM which was very early for me. This ended up being my best decision as it led me to get more sleep. I normally had to wake up at around 10 AM so my old ways of going to sleep at 3 AM didn't help. I woke up earlier and I could experience the morning rather than just the afternoon and the night. On top of this, I felt happier and I got more stuff done. I started to learn guitar more frequently and I started to learn affiliate marketing. I had more motivation to do certain things and that was all because of my sleep. I remember only being able to get 10–12 emails out a day when I was affiliate marketing. After my sleep increase, I was more productive sending out 40–50 emails in the same amount of time. I was more productive because of my sleep and my sleep soon showed its importance in productivity.
Overall, sleep is so important and we should all shoot for 8–9 hours per night. I couldn't imagine my life without my sleep routine and I hope this article helped you.
