Personal Statement Essay Example

Writing a personal statement is a complicated task, as a student it's frustrating trying to describe yourself when you don’t yet know who you are. You have so many expectations to uphold that it comes to a point where you don’t know who you are. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a student. I am a friend. I am something different to many people, however my main identity comes from my roots. I am an immigrant from Mexico who is in search of a high-minded education that will enable me to achieve my goals.. Even though it has been around 10 years since I was in Mexico, I still have my roots thanks to my mother and sisters. My Mexican roots have helped me achieve many things in life, they push me to represent my family and where I am from, and more importantly myself. 

Being from a small family has really shaped me up to be independent and care for my own, my family consists of my mother and my two sisters, with me being the oldest. Being an older sibling makes me the example, the role model, the person my family looks up to, and it's an honor being that for my siblings. However, being an immigrant is a big challenge with many obstacles, it has been hard overcoming those obstacles mentally and economically. Like many other young immigrant students, I have fallen under the pressure of the future and what it may hold. I have spent countless hours worrying about my future. What if I can't go to college because of my legal status? What if I can't get a job and pay for college? What if I fail to surpass the boundaries and obstacles that are in front of me?Even though all these questions are unsolved, I have been persistent. I keep on working to surpass those obstacles in everything that I do, from school, to extracurricular activities, and my hobbies. 

Although it becomes difficult to stay on top of each and every thing that I do, my family and my roots give me the strength to challenge myself everyday, through the good moments in my life and especially through the bad moments in my life. I want to be able to live my life to the fullest and give everything I can to my dreams. In life many of us have ambitious goals, however, only with hard work and self- will can we achieve these goals. And for now my education is the path to that success in life, because it will open up many opportunities.
