Cell phones have benefited our society and the way we live our lives today. But; personal phones were not always tolerable, they used to be as long as a footlong at Subway. Martin Cooper invented one of the first cell phones, and it was called the 800x Motorola DynaTAC. It allegedly took phones a decade to sell to people, and they were $4,000 when they finally sold.
In emergency circumstances, cell phones have been very useful when needing to call for help. An article by “it still works” talks about the tools in the device. However, the importance of cell phones goes way beyond personal safety. Modern cell phones are capable of internet access, sending and receiving photos and files, and some cell phones are equipped with GPS technology, allowing for use in most locations around the world and allowing the cell phone to be found or the user located in the event of loss or emergency.” In the event of a lost person or a lost phone, we can use a GPS to find the phone or person. Phones also contribute to legal cases and they help in the event of car accidents. TechWalla talks about how if you get in a car accident taking a picture is helpful. If you have a cell phone with a built-in camera and have an accident, you can snap a photo of the car damage. The photograph and police accident report can provide legal evidence.” The police need evidence to make a legal case and prove someone guilty. For example, if somebody hits a car from behind and then that car leaves, the person who got hit can get money to pay for the damage. The police can also help by finding the person who hit the car if the person remembers where they got hit. So that the police can look at camera footage.
Cell phones also assist people with disabilities to communicate with others. In an article called “it still works” they talk about what phones do to help disabled people. The article says, “The text and instant messaging functions of cell phones can be used to help those who suffer from vocal communication problems. Some conditions, such as certain forms of autism or diseases of the vocal cords, leave individuals able to understand words but unable to vocalize them. Cell Phones offers a portable and unobtrusive way to type what they want to say instead of having to say it aloud, with some phones also offering text-to-speech capabilities.” People with disabilities can’t often speak to others, so phones allow them to communicate with others by texting them. In some other cases, if people have trouble typing, they can use the “text-to-speech” tool. This tool allows them to say what they want to say by texting the message to the recipient.
