Impacts of COVID-19 mortality, the spread of COVID-19, and COVID-19 cause are topics of significant concern. COVID-19 pandemic, since its emergence in 2019 up to date, is the most challenging health issue facing humankind. The spread of COVID-19 worldwide has caused various impacts on socio-economic and public health devastation worldwide. Two articles have recently addressed the issue COVID-19 pandemic. The report by Khan and other authors, "A County-Level Susceptibility Index and Coronavirus Disease 2019 Mortality In the United States: A Socioecological Study." The article's authors argue that COVID-19 is majorly caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Coronavirus 2 (SARS-C oV2).

The pandemic has spread worldwide and has become a health burden, more specifically in the United States. The authors show how advanced age and cardiovascular disease risk lead to mortality and hospitalization for infections related to COVID-19. The second article is "Could Masks Curtail the Post-Lockdown Resurgence of COVID-19 in the US?" by Calistus. The authors highlight the importance of early implementation of measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic. The authors also suggest that the pandemic's main transmission pathway is person-to-person respiratory transmissions and contaminated sources. Both articles have the same purpose and message and pass the message to influence people to adopt safer ways to avoid the spread of the disease and understand the causes of COVID-19. Hence,  both sources prove appealing to the audience and influence them to take safety measures.

Similarities

Khan and other authors use a captivating opening sentence to capture readers' interest since not all readers automatically like the subject was written in the article. How the author's structure the sentence creates a catchy effect on the reader and makes them interested.

For instance, "Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is caused by a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-C oV2) and has rapidly emerged into a global pandemic." Many people are aware of the cause of COVID-19 and make them relate to the experience of causes of the virus as well, showing the relevancy of the subject matter. "Emerged into a global pandemic, the authors use this statement to depict the pandemic has spread all over the world (Khan et al., 2020). Additionally, the authors might have had the intention of clearly showing the reader the pandemic's reality.

Similarly, Calistus and other authors structure the first sentence to create a hook that interests the audience and readers. The hook and sincerity of the sentence directly relate to the current health issues facing humanity. Such a sentence captures the interest of the reader and shows the reality of the pandemic situation. For example, the most critical public health challenge" indicates that the authors are more aware the reader will create interest in the topic (Khan et al., 2020). Such a statement also suggests that the COVID-19 outbreak is a world health problem, and there is a need for urgency to prevent the spread of the virus all over the world and, more significantly, the United States.

Secondly, there is clarity in the presentation of their ideas. The article by Khan and others presents its ideas and argument in an organized manner that is easy to understand. This strategy of opening each paragraph with a sentence that makes sense of direction is evident at every paragraph's beginning. For example, in the COVID-19 related death section, the authors account for the number of deaths from 1735 counties as of 2 June 2020. This strategy, therefore, is used by the author to show the mortality rate as a result of COVID-19

(Khan et al., 2020). Thus, the authors clearly understand that readers like it when what they will be reading and what is expected to be found in the paragraph. Calistus and the authors also, in their article, present ideas in a structured manner, making the article easy to understand. Information provided in the article is clear and has more insight into knowledge about mitigated methods towards preventing the spread of the virus and the mortality rate related to the pandemic. Here, the authors intend to provide more insight into the audience's measures to curb the spread and any death related to the virus.

Besides, the paragraphs are structured to make sense of direction (Ngonghala et al., 2020). Thus, this implies that the authors are aware that readers get more interested if they know precisely what they are reading and what is expected next.

Differences

In the article Calistus and other authors, they use a mathematical model strategy to depict the spread of the virus. The authors are aware that this strategy will provide a trajectory that will predict the future number of COVID-19 infections worldwide and, more specifically, in the United States. This strategy offers a knowledge gap for the reader and makes them even more interested in being aware (Ngonghala et al., 2020). On the other hand, Khan and his group employ discussion of which is an effective method of data presentation and analysis. The procedures and materials used also show the impact of high infections.
