Why is psychology important?

Mental illness has become a trend, but they don’t show the things that go into psychology and how important it actually is. “Studies say that “Psychology helps people in large part because it can explain why people act the way they do. With this kind of professional insight, a psychologist can help people improve their decision making, stress management and behavior based on understanding past behavior to better predict future behavior.” (Journal of Educational & Psychological Consultation p.277). In other words, psychologists help you find the cause of your problem, or better your weakness.   Additional research confirms how psychology helps individuals with so many days to day decisions. Because of what studies show “The study of people's behavior, performance, and mental operations. It also refers to the application of the knowledge, which can be used to understand events, treat mental health issues, and improve education, employment, and relationships.” (Journal of Educational & Psychological Consultation p.278). It tells how the arts side of psychology focuses more on research and the clinical side of psychology.

They use certain research and assessments to make up a special treatment.  Note how even the psychologist benefits in the process of bettering others. It gives a sense of rationality to situations that happen to others and can study them to find treatment for more cases. In addition to previous research “Psychology is not only to understand the processes that under lines human thinking and behavior but apply that understanding to solve practical problems.”  (Journal of Educational & Psychological Consultation p.284). Because of the knowledge you can assess and learn more, like a psychologist, therapists can assess their clients to see where the problem is. Therapists determine if an individual needs additional specialists or services such as psychiatry, legal aid, or medicines.

How does mental illness affect the mind?

Certain problems affect one’s mind in completely different ways than others. Because of it “Most scientists believe that mental illnesses result from problems with the communication between neurons in the brain neurotransmission.” (Van Dijk, S. p.12) In the more science part of psychology you learn why the brain is so important and so complicated. Our brains produce a chemical called serotonin, what serotonin does is keep you happy. When your serotonin levels are low you begin to feel more sad than happy. Scientists always state that “Mental health professionals and researchers generally agree on a standardized definition of mental illness as a disruptive mental health condition that can also be diagnosed and treated.” (Van Dijk, S. p.16)

Common knowledge of mental problems is that you’re just sad or crazy, but that is not just it at all. Most only hear about depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia, but really there are so many. Some aren’t as bad as others, but they are still illnesses that are important. The brain is the most important factor that plays into mental illnesses. It shows that ”As the organ most responsible for our behavior, decision making, and emotions, our brain is directly impacted by mental illness.” (Van Dijk, S. p.32) Mental illnesses affect the brain the most and disturbs the way our brains work. It worsens the brain by slowing down how you think and causing a chemical imbalance between neurons and emotions.

Why are psychologists and therapists important?

Instant Help 2017 p.178) Psychologists help you find the cause of your problem, or better your weakness. The psychiatrist is the person who is able to give you medicine that you need. Psychology makes it easier to understand how humans think and behave while communicating with others.

Additional information states “Psychologists use scientific research to better understand how people learn, interpret events and make decisions. They then translate that knowledge into techniques to help people make smarter choices in their daily lives.” (Think Confident, Be Confident for Teens: A Cognitive Therapy Guide to Overcoming Self-Doubt and Creating Unshakable Self-Esteem. Instant Help 2017 p.180). They focus more on research and the clinical side of psychology. They use certain research and assessments to make up a special treatment.

On the more science side of psychology, they go more into it about finding more cures and more clinical. There is a difference between a therapist and psychologist. The sequence of “A licensed mental health professional (therapist) who helps clients improve their lives, develop better cognitive and emotional skills, reduce symptoms of mental illness and cope with various challenges.” (Think Confident, Be Confident for Teens: A Cognitive Therapy Guide to Overcoming Self-Doubt and Creating Unshakable Self-Esteem. Instant Help 2017 p.170) Like a psychologist, therapists can assess their clients to see where the problem is. Therapists determine if an individual needs additional specialists or services such as psychiatry, legal aid, or medicines. Psychology is a wide field and has many areas to it, because of this, they’re able to help such a wide variety of people.

Because they psychology it enables those to treat the mentally ill and learn more about the human brain and the chemical imbalance that affect one’s emotions, actions, and thought process.
