Global warming is an alarming threat that grows bigger everyday. Methods of fighting global warming should be exercised everywhere. One of these methods can be the usage of electric cars.

One of the most important advantages of using electric cars is lower green house gas production. Since they run on battery power, electric cars could be a means to end fuel-burning cars. This means that electric cars will be running on renewable resources which will not be damaging to our environment.

According to Paul Scott, Co-Founder of Plug-In-America (passage 1), "the environment will benefit from the growing use of electric cars as improvements are made for renewable power generation". Therefore, the fact that electricity is a fixed part of our lives can be used for the incorporation of electric cars in our lives. Continuous usage of such cars could become as easy as using phones, laptops or other electronics.

Moreover, studies show that the usage of electric cars would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 22 percent and smog forming pollutants by 32-99 percent. These statistics could drastically reduce green house gas emissions, preventing ozone pollution, consumption of water and use of steel and copper materials.

Nevertheless, there are certain disadvantages that need to be examined. One of the most damaging aspects of electric cars are the coal based electricity. Power from coal-producing plants are infinitely more dangerous because this method produces 3.6 times more soot and smog related deaths: all while, polluting our environment at an alarming rate. According to the Department of Energy (passage 2), coal produces 39 percent of the country's electricity. This percentage contributes to higher rates of deaths from air pollution and green house gas emissions.

In conclusion, our coal-burning habits should be put to an end. Electric cars, while a better alternative, should get their electricity from power based on renewable resources like wind or water, rather than coal.
