710 executed. Canada abolished the death penalty from the criminal code in 1976. Was that the wrong move to make. Why should we let families suffer over their loved ones because of certain people. There is a common misconception that murderers do not learn their lesson or think of the end consequence. The death penalty is just a punishment for crimes committed against the rights to life, freedom and safety of victims.

Choose To Prevent And Protect

By executing murderers you prevent them from murdering again. If these people do not exist then they cannot commit more crimes. It is the right of an individual to live peacefully and be free from harm. Unfortunately, crimes like murder, kidnapping and assault are committed by perpetrators who have no regard for life and property of others. Since they violate other people’s lives, it is fair that they are brought to justice and suffer the fate they rightfully deserve. In addition criminals have admitted in thousands of fully documented cases, that the death penalty was a specific threat which deterred them from committing murder. Allowing the death can prevent and warn people not to commit such abominable crimes.

Does Execution Really Cost More

It cost about $2 million to execute a person on death row. On the other hand it cost $1 million for 40 years imprisonment. Withholding medical expenses, visitation, special diets and other requirements such as holding a prisoner in solitary confinement. It costs around 31,000$ a year to feed one inmate which is almost 90$ a day. Prisoners who would be subject to the death penalty but in some cases it's illegal in their legal system would most likely be put in solitary confinement which would subject to at least $75,000 a year.

Not only does solitary confinement cost more, it’s dangerous and abusive. Isolated prisoners are mostly likely to become psychotic from sensory deprivation. Vaughn Dortch in solitary had a mental breakdown (from sensory deprivation causing him to become psychotic) and officers dunked his head in scalding water , scrubbed him with wired brushes and made racist jokes about him. Non death penalty supporters say that it would cost more to execute a person than to have them spend their life in prison is debatable. Not only can it cost less the death penalty does not have to cost as much.

Counterclaim

The opponents of capital punishment claim that the death penalty has caused and can cause the execution of innocent people. However, according to the supporters, no evidence indicates that innocent people have been executed. Studies show that they are unable to find a single case in which an innocent person was executed. Therefore no person was ever executed without physical proof. Some may say they're innocent people who are on the death row but in all cases if they are they’re lawyers figure it out before they are abolished.

Conclusion

According to the capital punishment supporters, many of the reasons of the anti-death penalty movement are false and are now wrongly accepted as fact. The argument that the death penalty does not deter crime is debatable. In conclusion no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law.(U.S Const.,amend V) In other word, once a person has gone through the process of law, his or her life can be taken if guilty. If Canada didn’t abolished the death penalty it would be similar to the U.S law constitution. To sum it all up canada should enforce a death penalty and stop perpetrators.
