When it comes to managing work and social life, many people find 40-hour weeks to be too long and inconvenient and it becomes hard to balance work-life out, especially when children are put in the equation. Recently, there have been ideas by working people for shorter workweeks. Everyone dislikes the beginning of the week, but there is a way to make someone feel more rested. Many employees are likely to be attracted to the concept of a shorter workweek. Working people will certainly access a greater level of drive and perform better work as a result of having an extended weekend or an additional day off to work towards themselves. People would prefer to work for a company that values their time and does not overload them with work. Altogether, four day work days would increase employee’s productivity, employee’s engagement and all around make the employees happier, which benefits the organization they work for.

To begin with, a four-day work week results in increased employee productivity. According to a change recruitment group after doing a study stated that, “a New Zealand based company, Perpetual Guardian, conducted a trial study of a 4-day work week. Not only did employees maintain the same productivity level, but they also showed improvement in job satisfaction, teamwork, work/life balance and company loyalty” (The Pros and Cons of a 4 Day Working Week, n.d.). People who work 40 hours a week, according to the findings of this study, are overwhelmed by their workload, frequently feel overworked, lack motivation, and are less alert than those who work a four-day week. Employee productivity increases by 25% to 50% when a four-day workweek is implemented.Employees are not only more productive, but also more engaged in their work, which is helpful in the workplace.

The shortening of the workweek to four days would be a significant change for all industries. Employees would benefit from four-day weeks because their motivation would be significantly higher as a result of their increased motivation. Another trial was conducted by the change recruitment group, and they discovered during their investigation that “from 2015 to 2017, Sweden conducted a trial study into a shorter work week. Nurses at a care home worked only 6 hours for five days a week. This information reveals that the change recruiting group intends to demonstrate that the majority of people prefer four-day weeks after numerous trials because they were able to get more rest, which ultimately made them happy and made the workplace a place where they would want to work. People, on the other hand, are more productive and engaged, as well as happier in general, which has a good impact on the environment in which they work.

Is it realistic to begin working less in search for happiness? Allowing employees to spend more time with their families and friends reduces stress and improves employee happiness. While a happy workforce may appear to be a long way off in today's world, allowing for scheduling flexibility will go a long way toward reducing employee stress level.
