The power of love affects us by changing the way we think and act. Love can make us do something that we never would have thought of doing. Love can also change the way a person acts. It can make a person stop doing bad stuff just because the person they love hates it. Love is really a strong thing. In Romeo and Juliet, the love Romeo and Juliet have for each other made them do things that they probably would have never done. The story of Romeo and Juliet also shows how powerful love is. There are two main themes in Romeo and Juliet that show how powerful and confusing love can be.

One of the main themes of Romeo and Juliet is love. In Act 1 Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare explores the idea of love. Romeo is struggling to explain his feelings for Rosaline when he describes love as. “heavy lightness, serious vanity, misshapen chaos of well-seeming forms. Feather of lead…”(8-10). In this situation, Romeo wants to be with Rosaline but she will not let herself fall in love with him. As he is young, immature, and impulsive, Romeo cannot put into words how he feels so he uses oxymorons to try. While it sounds profound, all of the oxymorons lead up to making no sense for the reader, and we are left to question the depth of his true feelings.

Another theme of Romeo and Juliet is lust. In Act 1 Scene 1, Shakespeare explores the idea of lust. Romeo wants to “do it” with Rosaline, but Rosaline vows to save herself until she is married. Romeo says, “she’ll not be hit with Cupid’s arrow. She hath Dian’s wit” (216-217). Romeo uses allusions to show that no matter what he does, Rosaline vows to save herself until after marriage. Romeo uses allusions like “Cupid's arrow” and “Dian’s wit” to show that no matter what Romeo does, Rosaline will not have sex with him.

In conclusion, the themes of Romeo and Juliet show how love can change a person. The themes of Romeo and Juliet also show how love can make us do crazy things. At the end of the story, Romeo kills himself because he believes that Juliet is dead. He kills himself so that he can be with her in the afterlife. When Juliet wakes up from the potion she took from Friar Lawrence and she sees Romeo dead, she also kills herself because she wants to be with him in the afterlife. This shows how love is so powerful that it can make people do crazy things. The story of Romeo and Juliet shows how love can change someone and it shows how powerful love is.
