Fairy tales have been in lots of people’s childhoods and further years. There are two different stories about Cinderella. One was written by The Grimm Brothers, a group of German writers. The other version is by Charles Perrault a French writer. The Perrault version is a  more fun and light version of the Grimm’s. These two stories have a ton of similarities and differences in their two stories.

Both of these versions of the famous tale Cinderella are quite similar yet so different. To begin, in the Grimm version, the stepsisters cut off certain sections of their foot for the foot to fit the shoe. “Then the mother gave her a knife ‘ Cut off your toe’. When you are queen you will no longer have to walk on foot.”’ In the Perrault version the girls simply gave up and did not risk a part of their foot. Apart from, in the Grimm version the step mother told her to pick lentils from some ashes. “‘  I have put a bowl of lentils into the ashes for you if you can pick them out in two hours , then you may go with us.”’ The Perrault version says that she leaves without asking or saying anything. Furthermore,  the last contrast is that she mourned the death of her mother. “ The girl went out to her mother's grave every day and wept.” Though in the French version she almost has no recollection of her mother and has little care for her death. Those were some reasons on how different the two tales are.

Both of these versions are different yet also very similar. Initially, in both stories, her family does not care about her or like her. In the Perrault version “ When the stepmother’s bad temper began to show itself. She could not bear the goodness of this young girl.” (Likewise) “ But, evil and dark hearts. Time soon grew bad for the stepchild.” Subsequently, in the stories she had a stepmother and two stepsisters. “ Once upon a time there was a gentleman who married, for his second wife, the proudest and most haughty woman that was ever seen . She had two daughters of her own.” (Akin to) “ This wife brought two daughters  into the house with her.” Ultimately, Cinderella lost her shoe on the way out of the party. “ When she ran down the stairs, her left slipper got stuck in the pitch.” (Similar to) “ Having nothing left of all her finery but one of her little slippers.” Those are three reasons why these two tales are similar.

These two versions  of the famous tale Cinderella are very different and very similar in so many ways. In the Grimm’s side of the story they are more dark and morbid.  Though, in the  French versions they were more light, happy, and fun to listen to. In conclusion the two versions of Cinderella share and differ in qualities.
