International Telecommunication Union estimated about 3.2 billion people, or almost half of the world's population, would be online by the end of the year. People often debate whether technology is good or bad, many people believe that technology is a waste of time while others believe that technology is the greatest invention ever. Overall, technology has changed our lives completely and based on the facts technology has more pros than cons. 

Today’s technology helps anyone any age. Things you want to learn can easily be looked up in a blink of an eye. Schools are even accepting technology as a necessity now because they understand technology is great for learning. George middle school in Portland, Oregon, introduced a social media program to engage students, grades went up by 50% (fromProCon.org). Using technology is more relatable to kids in school instead of a pen and paper, and it makes the kids want to get more involved. Social media spreads information faster than the traditional media. Social media users have been responsible for reporting events before traditional outlets, including the Paris attack, the Ebola outbreak, the Boston Marathon bombing, and the Aurora Co theater shooting. By having the news reach people faster people can react quicker and reach safety if there is a crisis going on. Technology is constantly helping us throughout our lives whether it's saving us or helping us learn.

Social media helps people start their business and helps people network so they can grow there business. Being able to connect on social networking sites gives business women a support group that's not found offline. Women take part more on major social networking sites including Facebook than men do, according to a pew research study of U.S. online users. Given the fact that historically women have driven social communication among friends, neighbors, families and communities in the offline world, it's no surprise that this behavior transitioned online. One of the most popular ways to start a business is online. There are 38 million home-based businesses in the U.S. and they generate a total annual revenue of $427 billion per year, (from incfile.com). By having many ways to make income allows people to do things like travel, pay there bills on time, and buy items they always wanted. Using social networking sites helps start businesses and generate a passive income so people can do what they want to do.

 Many people believed that we have a moral obligation to reduce the power and presence of technology. Criminals use social media to commit and promote crimes. Although they are influencing people to negative things, 85% of police departments use social media to solve crimes. Social media sites have helped in the prosecution and conviction of several crimes. Before social media bullying was something only done face-to-face. However now someone can be bullied online anonymously. Even though there are risks of being online social media also is a way to save lives. Lives are not only saved by 24 hour suicide prevention hotlines, spreading awareness and motivating people is important too, and simply assuring people they are not alone. Spending too much time on social networking sites could be adversely affecting your mood. Although that is true social media can benefit mental health to. Emotions expressed online affect your mood. It not only helps to relive social isolation but also open new communications pathways and offers much needed support.Technology will continue to develop and become apart of are regular lives so we should embrace it.

Overall, technology has more pros than cons based on the facts. Social media can genuinely connect us and help us communicate more efficiently, or just feed our egos and our need for others' approval. At the end, how we use it depends on each individuals decisions.
